Daniel Miller is Professor of Anthropology at UCL and author/editor of 39 books including Social Media in an English Village, Visualising Facebook (with J. Sinanan), The Comfort of People, Digital Anthropology (ed. with H. Horst), The Internet: an Ethnographic Approach (with D. Slater) The Comfort of Things and Stuff. His fieldsites are Ireland (in collaboration with Pauline Garvey) and Trinidad.

Pauline Garvey is senior lecturer in the Department of Anthropology in Maynooth University, the National University of Ireland. Her research interests include digital anthropology, material culture and design and domesticity. Her recent publications include Unpacking IKEA: Swedish Design for the Purchasing Masses (Routledge 2017).

Alfonso Otaegui gained his PhD at the EHESS (Paris), and then did a postdoc at the University of California (Berkeley) and at the Philipps-University Marburg (Germany). He is based at the Center for Intercultural and Indigenous Research, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. He is carrying out his ethnography among migrants working in Santiago de Chile.

Patrick Awondo is an anthropologist and has been a Global South Scholar attached to the department of Anthropology and Sociology at the Graduate Institute in Geneva and lecturer at University of Yaoundé1- Cameroon. He has also worked as health anthropologist for UNAIDS in West and Central Africa and conducted missions in more than 8 countries. He is the author of The Sex and its Double. Homosexualities in Postcolonial Africa (forthcoming ENS Lyon Ed), and many articles.

Xinyuan Wang is a Postdoctoral Researcher based at the Department of Anthropology, UCL. Wang received her PhD and MSc degrees from the UCL department of Anthropology. Wang was the co-author and translator of the Chinese version of the book Digital Anthropology (Horst and Miller Eds., 2013) Wang’s publications include How the World Changed Social Media (co-author, 2116, UCL Press), and Social Media in Industrial China (2016, UCL Press).

Maya de Vries is a PhD researcher based at the Department of Communication and Journalism, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Maya has a Master degree in Conflict Management and Resolution from the Hebrew University. Maya’s research interests are in digital communication, conflict resolution and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Maya is carrying out her ethnography in East Jerusalem among the Palestinian community. Her recent publication concerns the online struggle over al-Aqsa Mosque.

Shireen Walton is a Postdoctoral Researcher based at the Department of Anthropology, UCL. She completed her PhD in Anthropology at the University of Oxford, and has since worked at the Centre of Migration Policy and Society (COMPAS) Oxford, and as a Teaching Fellow at UCL Anthropology. Shireen is carrying out her ethnography in northern Italy amongst migrant communities. ERC funded.

Laura is a PhD researcher at UCL Anthropology, conducting fieldwork in Japan. She has a masters in Visual Anthropology from the University of Oxford and is interested in drawing on this for both research and dissemination. Laura was a research assistant and public engagement fellow on the Why We Post project and has published about digital education here. ERC funded.

Charlotte Hawkins is a PhD researcher at UCL Anthropology. She graduated in 2017 with an MSc Social & Cultural Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam. Her thesis was about mental health stigma in Uganda, which prompted an interest in using anthropological research to alleviate health inequities. She will return to Kampala for her ethnography in 2018/19. ERC funded.

Marilia D. Pereira is a PhD student at ESPM São Paulo and an Honorary Research Associate at UCL’s Department of Anthropology. She has a masters in Social Communication and is interested in smartphones, the use of mHealth apps and their capacity to improve people’s welfare in Brazil. Her research interests also include communities, privacy and ethics in digital environments.
